Habit defined in a dictionary
A behaviour pattern regularly followed till it becomes involuntary.
A disposition toward self, others, things and the world at large.
An addiction which a person cannot avoid or give up..
-----
Habits are initially formed because we are taught, or we copy, or we learn, or we are trained to do things in a given way. Habit formation takes place because we are programmed by making same repeated choices. These result in neural networks building up in the brain. These networks when activated get us to think, feel, act, behave, do, respond, speak in given ways. These are called habits.
We therefore
- Brush our teeth
- Button up shirt and pant
- Get down steps
- Eat our food
- Drink water
- Soap our body
- Etc
By habit in a particular way. Habits are difficult to give up because our awareness about their pattern is almost absent. We justify and protect them.
