Motivation and Motivators


Motivation is an inner urge that pushes us, drives us, forces us to act, do, perform activites in pursuit of objectives and goals. The activities may be many and varied and so also their causes, the motivators. 

Need for motivation : We need motivation to go, to reach, to achieve, to become, to be, to be remembered, to connect, to relate, to be happy, to protect to be secured, to be safe, to love and be loved.

Motivators: Goals are primary Motivators. Other motivators are many and varied. Here is an indicative list:

1. Existential  - We eat food, drink water, go and work for our subsistence procreation and survival.

2. Physical - We engage in sports activities, exercise, fitness, go somewhere, travel, tour.

3. Pleasure - For joy, happiness, gain, success, position, prestige, importance, accolades, praise, attention.

4. Prosperity, wealth, fame and renown.

5. Power, control and authority.

6. Provide for safety, security and protection.

7. Gain - money, knowledge, prosperity, wealth and power.

8. Health, wellbeing and survival.

9. Psychological - love, affection, touch, time structuring, interacting, acceptance, maintaining self image, recognition and aspirational gains.

10. Social - connecting to others, building groups, associations and communities.

11. Religious and Spiritual - for maintenance of related faith and beliefs, becoming God conscious, spiritual progress.

12. Emotional - to build trust, faith, togetherness and nurture relationships.

13. Entrepreneurship, trade and businesses.

14. Vocations, professions, skills, talents, practices, job or employment profiles.

15. Educational - to build expertise to pursue a vocation, practice, business, trade or profession.

16. Pursuit of values and goals.

17. To end situations, solve problems, face difficulties, overcome conditions, face challenges and resolve conflicts.

18. To deal with threats, events, occurrences, incidents, happenings, accidents.

19. To grow, develop and prosper.

20. To be remembered, to leave footprints on the sands of time.
