MSEDCL - Electric Company employees were not available for taking meter readings regularly during the pandemic period. We were afraid that huge amount will accumulate if we don't pay monthly bills on time. We tried to pay average amount every month, but the system would not accept it. So we decided that we would pay when we received the message.
At last this month message was received asking us to send our meter reading with a camera shot of the reading.
Our society meter room is small, dark and locked. After much effort we got the key to the meter room. It took an hour! We both went down with a big torch. I to hold the torch only with a srict warning not give any suggestions while he is working!
It was first time round for us. We had to find out which one was our meter out of some twenty plus meters there. It was found that the consumer number written on the meter did not match the consumer number embossed on the metal label nailed to the board. So it was necessary to take a photo of both. We were startled by a big rat running across the room. Of course I gave a loud shriek.
Then to our surprise five readings were showing up one after another. There is a button to stop the reading. This was our first time, so we didn't know, which of the five was the reading!
So my husband opened You Tube and found out how we should be taking the reading. He was successful in taking a photo of the reading trial and error.
Then we both gave a sigh of relief and sent the photo on the site. Thankfully it was accepted. Now we are waiting to find out whether the bill reflects the reading we have taken.
Our Sunday morning was well spent today. One big job done. Simple yet a challenge like everything else the first time round.
