Positive Thinking

Positive Thinking

Positive thinking is thinking that promotes relief from stress, doubt, questions like what if or anxiety etcetera. Positive thinking also promotes hope and mental well being. It gets us to see the brighter side of things. It helps to convert critical thoughts into beneficial thoughts. Other ways of understanding positive thinking is that it constructive and productive thinking.

Two examples to elaborate.

I am travelling outstation. Well into my journey I find that the meeting was for yesterday not today. I say to myself : "My god. All this is going to turn to naught. I have goofed it up." Soon my better self takes over and I run this thought in my mind. "Doesn't matter. I will stop at the toll and talk to the person on phone and find out if we can have a meeting today. And besides I have other jobs to do as well. So, no worries."

I am going to the station to catch a train. I run into a traffic jam. I cannot turn back and find another route because I am on a one way street. My mind would naturally think - "Oh! This had to happen now. I hope I reach the station on time and do not have to hurry up." Now being a positive thinker I restate as follows : "I have started well on time. Everything will turn out well."
